PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH MIDWIFE

 

Claire Zerafa is a Senior Practice Midwife in the field of perinatal mental health. She graduated as a midwife in 1995 and has worked with the Department of health ever since obtaining experience in all obstetric wards as well as in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She continued her training by obtaining a Master’s degree in Bioethics from the University of Malta, and her 2nd Master’s degree in Perinatal Mental Health from the University of Hallam Sheffield UK and currently manages the Perinatal Mental health clinic at Mater Dei hospital. 

Claire continuously attends conferences and regularly updates her training. She is a certified Solihull Approach program facilitator to support women and their partners in the transition to parenthood and is accredited to practice the Parent Infant Observation Scale from the University of Warwick UK this is to support and guide women in the attachment with their newborn.

Currently she is in a research programme entitled ‘Peripartum Disorders’ within the European Cost Action. She is a research officer in the “Parenting Strategy Research” in collaboration with the department of Family Studies and is a visiting lecturer with Faculty of Science teaching Midwifery students.

Claire is a co-founder and an active member of the NGO Parent Infant Mental Health Alliance. In 2019 Claire was elected to represent Midwives within the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses and in the National Council of women.

  1. Click on the booking tab on the right and choose an appointment that suits you. An email with the details of your booked service (including the Google Meet link in the case of online consultations) will be sent.
  2. You will be taken to CHECKOUT PAGE where you can settle the fee securely via Credit/Debit Card or Paypal. An email will be sent confirming payment. We will send you email/SMS reminders prior to your appointment.
  3. When it's time for your online consultation, click on the Google Meet link to start the meeting. For home-based sessions, your midwife will meet you at the agreed time. For sessions at the MyMama hub, please be sure to arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment.
