MATERNAL REFLEXOLOGY & ACUPRESSURE
by midwife & massage therapist DENISE HOLMES
Ease stress in the last few days of pregnancy, and naturally stimulate the onset of labour.
Maternal Reflexology and Acupressure can be performed from 38 weeks gestation onwards.
This service is delivered by senior midwife and therapist Denise Holmes. During a typical reflexology massage, reflex points on the foot are subjected to gentle pressure, rubbing or rolling on the reflex point. Each of these points is said to be connected to a specific part of the body, including internal organs. The aim of the therapy is to reduce stress while easing minor complaints. After 38 weeks gestation, maternal reflexology techniques will help the expecting mother in her late pregnancy to stimulate the uterus and ovary reflexes, as well as the production of oxytocin to help bring on natural labour. This helps the cervix to soften and uterus to start contracting.
In combination with reflexology, this session includes acupressure - this is an needle free therapy, applying manual pressure to specific points on the body. This is done by the use finger tips instead of needles. Acupressure is safe and it helps to relive pain and stress, lessens anxiety and improves sleep and other pregnancy discomfort. Moreover it promotes relaxation and naturally helps stimulate the onset of labour.
PREGNANCY, POSTPARTUM & SUPPORTING PARTNER MASSAGE
by massage therapist & Rebozo practitioner AMANDA TONNA
Pregnancy Massage
A soothing, full-body massage designed specifically for the changing needs of pregnancy. Using gentle, and firm yet nurturing pressure, this session eases lower back discomfort, releases tension in the hips, and calms the nervous system.
What makes it unique: Traditional Mexican Rebozo techniques are included i.e using soft scarves to gently cradle and sway the body to create space in the lower back, pelvis and other major tension spots. This ancient practice helps prepare the body for birth by softly opening tight areas and inviting the baby into an optimal position.
Postnatal Massage
A deeply restorative massage for the fourth trimester. This session focuses on relieving tension carried from labour and early motherhood - tight shoulders from feeding, a weary lower back, and hands that rarely rest.
What makes it unique: Therapist Amanda Tonna concludes this session with a gentle Rebozo closing technique. This means that soft scarves are used to wrap areas of the body, mainly the hips, to encourage the pelvis and bones to settle back after birth. It is a profound act of comfort and closure - an invitation to rest, recover, and feel held and whole again.
Massage for the Supporting Partner
Parenthood is a shared journey. This massage is designed for the partner of the birthing mother - whether birth partner, adoptive parent, or co-caregiver who carries their own weight of worry, sleeplessness, and support. The session focuses on common tension areas: shoulders, neck, and lower back, offering deep relief and a moment to simply receive.
