Rebecca Buttigieg is an industrial engineer by profession, but found her true passion in science communication, proceeding to obtain a car seat safety certification in the UK to be able to advise parents and parents-to-be on the best practices surrounding the purchase, installation and use of infant and child car seats.
When her first child was a year old and needed his second car seat, she started to do some research and was horrified to find out how many safety mistakes she was making! She started studying car seat safety, bought her son the safest car seat she could find, and started sharing her new knowledge with other mothers. Rebecca spent several years as a volunteer car seat safety advisor in a UK car seat safety Facebook support group, and travelled to the UK to receive an IOSH-accredited qualification in car seat safety.
When booking a car seat safety consultation with Rebecca, she will guide you on how to use your car seat, practice safe installations and answer all your questions.
Here's what can be covered during a consultation, based on your requirements:
- Hands-on demonstration of how to install your car seat correctly, followed by you installing the car seat yourself*
- Hands-on demonstration of how to adjust the fit of your car seat as your child grows
- Answers to any questions or concerns about car seat use
- Guidelines on choosing the next car seat for your child, including how to evaluate a car seat's safety, and how to choose based on your child's weight and height
- Explanation of car seat regulations, testing, the local laws, and best practice
- Explanation of the physics of car crashes, how car seats work, and how different features of the car seat affect the child's safety
- Explanation of Isofix versus seatbelt car seats, and features such as top tether anchors
- Safety advice based on the season (keeping warm in winter, cool in summer)
* Please note that for legal reasons we do not offer the service of installing your car seat for you - the installation and use is always the responsibility of the parent or guardian, who should familiarise themselves with the manufacturer's instructions.
